BIRTHDAY RULE
Starting Jan. 1, 2013, Medicare beneficiaries who are currently on a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan
have a yearly opportunity to compare Medicare Supplement prices and switch companies. They must keep the same plan type or choose one with lesser benefits. For example, a Plan F enrollee can switch to any 2010 Medicare Supplement Plan A - N, (except for an Innovative Plan F). The opportunity to compare prices and change Medigap plans starts on the beneficiary's birthday and ends 30 days later. This is a guarantee issue situation.

WHAT IS MEDICARE?
Medicare is a federal system of health insurance for people over 65 years of age and for certain younger people with disabilities, and is made up of four parts.
PART A - Hospital services
PART B - Physician and Outpatient Services
PART C - Medicare Advantage which is made up of private companies who have a Federal contract with Medicare to provide Health Care Services.
PART D - Prescription Drug Plans
MEDICARE SUPPLEMENT PLANS
Medicare Supplements are also known as Medigap plans. This is private health insurance
that is designed to supplement Original Medicare. This means it helps pay some of the
health care costs or gaps that Original Medicare doesn’t cover such as; copayment,
coinsurance, and deductibles.
